Screened at the Locarno International Film Festival 2008 (Switzerland)

The documentary Last Words directed by Erik Lieshout, Arno Hagers and Reinier van Brummelen. Bonanza Films was in charge of the production. The film shows Michel Houellebecq while he is translating his last book ‘The Possibility of an Island’ into images. Iggy Pop, who is Houellebecq’s admirer as well as idol, made 7 songs especially for the documentary. A search for a ‘farewell without an end’ and the ‘pure fear of space’. ...

On Stooges post-FH tunes... Some have probably already been discussed here. Maybe some can shed more light. Per

Due to their gradual communication decline, Iggy and Ron stopped working together on new material for the band. Iggy was critical of the song ideas that Ron did contribute, as he didn’t feel them were up to scratch. Increasingly, Iggy took it upon himself to write new material. The Stooges’ set in the second half of 1970 featured a mix of Fun House tracks and new numbers, which ...

Excerpted from the unfinished Stooges book project, circa 1993 - on the KING SOUND (I guess was the name of King's Cross Cinema, at least temporarily), 15 July 1972. Nothing really new - Per Nilsen:

Finally giving in to Iggy and the band’s requests for live work, Defries arranged a concert for the band at King Sound, a new venue utilising the old King’s Cross Cinema, on Saturday July 15th 1972. Billed as just Iggy Pop, it was the only concert the band played during their stay in England ...

My attempt from 1995 or so to clear up ALL (then) existing Stooges 1973-74 audio recordings. Especially the Whisky gigs were disorganized. I probably cleared a few things up. Not all.
Who did what? Iggy vs. Ron re. Fun House songwriting

Iggy has claimed that he composed all the Fun House tracks except for the riff for “TV Eye,” “I wrote that record almost entirely on my own. The only thing that Ron came up with was the riff to ‘TV Eye.’ The rest was all mine. The Ashetons were simply not as hard-working as me and as we got more gigs, they wrote less and less.” Ron refutes Iggy’s claims, saying that the album was essentially a collaboration between himself and Iggy, but ...

Does anyone know anything about this? Something Gerard Malanga taped? Per

1970/71 concert

1) Instrumental (4:45)

Comments: This track is listed as “Untitled” by Iggy Pop on the CD release Up From The Archives by Gerard Malanga. The song is copyrighted to Iggy Pop (1999). However, despite the artist and copyright credit, this song is not from any of Iggy’s (solo) tours. Rather, it sounds like the Stooges, circa 1971, with two guitars clearly audible. The sound quality is poor, however, ...

The final Stooges gigs in May 1971:

Returning to Ann Arbor, the Stooges were scheduled to play two shows at the Eastown Theater in Detroit, Friday and Saturday, May 21st and 22nd. On his way to the venue, Scott drove the band’s rented equipment truck into a bridge, ruining the truck and $3,000 in band equipment. Scott ended up in hospital with two of the band’s roadies. “We had a rented U-haul truck for taking the equipment,” Ron remembers. “My brother says he wants to go along. He wants ...

The opening act was Liquid Smoke, a blues band. Ungano’s was a small Upper Westside Manhattan club with a capacity of barely 200 people. Iggy managed to persuade Elektra’s Vice President Bill Harvey into giving him $400 for cocaine, explaining that he needed it to get through four punishing nights.

The ...

Iggy & JW on gtr accompaniment - NOT

Has it been discussed here that the widely believed Iggy-JW tapes (w. the 60s covers, Dylan, Small Faces, etc) of Iggy singing to gtr accompaniment is NOT JW on gtr. My guess is that it's one of the guys they drafted in to replace JW (temporarily) in 1973. It is not JW, confirmed by himself and pretty obvious when comparing his style to that of the gtrist on the tape(s). Any comments?

Per

The Stooges, on the other hand, are from an entirely different door. After seeing THEM, I was ready to hand in my credentials. They are being advertised as representing the sexually repressed American male, etc. They're dogs, more like it.

They are a quartet made up of lead guitar, bass, drums and lead singing by none other than Iggy Stooge. Iggy doesn't really sing, he sort of talks out his songs; sounding like a tripped-out gas station attendant. ("We're gonna have. . . a real ...

An attempt to describe the 1971 repertoire, but note that the titles of three songs are VERY tentative. Quite possibly, one of the three latter tunes is "Big Time Bum" - audio quality is too poor to be able to tell. Per

The 1971 edition of the band took a new musical direction, performing mostly newly penned material: “You Don’t Want My Name,” “Fresh Rag,” “Who Do You Love?”, “Do You Want My Love?” (tentative title because the only known version is a poor-quality live recording), ...

Has "Big Time Bum" been discussed on this forum? It was mentioned being part of the Stooges' early 1970 repertoire, possibly being considered for FH. Anybody heard it?

The Stooges replaced album tunes one by one and I don't think they played much of the 1st album towards the end of 1969. That's why I think "Dog Food" could very well have been a short-lived set inclusion. It's not that all great a song, so I'm sure it was replaced by the FH tunes as they started appearing ...
