No Williamson wrote "Penetration" Iggy just helped arrange it and I dont beleive that he wrote "Down On The Street".

I dont believe he did. Before The Stooges reunion he seemed to boast A LOT about writing every note The Stooges ever played.

oh yeh, ur rite, actualy, wel they kinda co-wrote it though didnt they? i remember reading they were in a small bedroom on london and workin on it

and im still pretty sure iggy wrote down on the street, tho really i think they each start something like a riff or bassline, and it forms from there, so really funhouse was a collaborative thing, unlike the others, were it woudlve been ron's riffs on the stooges, or james riffs on raw power etc u'no

I'm still not convinced "Down On The Street really does sound so Ron like.

I can't believe 'down on the street' is primarily Iggy either. in any case the first two albums are definitely the best for me!

Hi Per, good to see you!

Ivan Kral told me Dog Food was inspired by a blues documentary, where a commentator discusses dog food sales in the Chicago projects - where you can't kep a pet. I did check when it came out and from memory it's 72 or 73 and was mostly shown in Britain in the late 70s. SO I don't think there's any real evidence it's from 71, apart form the mention of Betsy, which isn't compelling.

Ron says Down on the Street was written by by Iggy, too - it was called Down On The Beach, and was devoted to Wendy, with whom he'd spend time up at the lakes. Then when she was out of the picture it was changed to Down On The Street. I'm sure Ron worked up the riff, though.

And yes I totally agree about Iggy saying he wrote every rif - he's told me that several times. But then, when challenged, especially today, he generally tells you ROn did so etc - this is exaclty what happened in TV eye, which he said he wrote, then when I asked him last time he said "Ron wrote the riffs... I spotted them".

I'm glad they changed the lyrics to "Down On The Street". "Down On The Beach" would really set the menacing tone wouldn't it? Laughing

"Down on the beach where the sun shines,
Floating in the water with a happy mind.
Shes a pretty thing - aint no tan
Shes a pretty thing - aint no tan

NO TAN!
NO TAN!
NO TAN!

Yeah deep in the water I'm lost in love.
Yeah deep in the water I'm lost in love.
A thousand fish - look at you.
A thousand fish - look at you.

AT YOU!
AT YOU!
AT YOU!
Yeah!
COME ON!

The sun shines - happy mind.
Happy mind.
A have a happy mind.
Happy mind."

Hi Paul!

How's the Iggy book selling? I saw it everywhere we travelled in the US and Canada this summer. Must be the biggest-selling Iggy book ever. Deservedly so! It is a truly great piece of work. I even had to buy a US version. Updated version later?

Hello,
I saw the Stooges live 39 years ago today. I would have never know the date without this Forum. Thanks for being here. I will be adding more stories and some pictures soon.
