We wont forget Ron, that's for sure...I have nothing against James.
It's interesting for sure:

Here's a link, James at Sony:

Under NO circumstances will Ron be forgotten or underappreciated here. James is awesome in his own right, but RON was the Stooges. At least in my opinion.

My opinion, too, my friend. And many others here.
Agree that Ron won't be forgotten here, but the problem lies with the uninformed and the people that know Iggy/the Stooges by name only and not the real history of the Stooges.

Next time the Stooges go on stage, will be the first time without Ron, no?

For those that will undoubtedly compliment James on guitar and at the same not having the faintest idea of the original Stooges guitarist.
That will piss me off!

It's no offence towards James, rather the "cluless" fans.

What makes both Ronīs and Jamesī guitar playing special, to me personally - is that they both have their own kind of style, I like both very much...

We used to talk on the telephone when they were not touring. We hung out before and after shows. When the band broke up we still hung out when I visited Ann Arbor. We even kept in touch for a few years by letter way into the late 70's. We visited Dave in the hospital together just days before he died. Just trying to establish that I really did know the man well.

What really got me upset was when I read the Ron did not have much ambition. Ron surely did!!!!!. Look at all the other bands he played with. Look at his song writing, his acting and other involvement in films as well as his guitar design...

Natalie, you're right, if we're talking in a musical sense.

But Ron certainly wasn't ambitious in the way Iggy and James were. There are varying forms of ambition - some more cut-throat than others.

I have mixed feelings about James playing - I'm glad for him, but sad it took Ron's death to make it happen. What IS amazing about the Stooges is that they had two guitarists who were stone geniuses. James certain;y didn't write the rules in the way ROn did, but it was Rawp POwer that spoke to my generation... it was a long time until I managed to find a copy of THe Stooges on cut-out...

Other way round for me. I first heard 'The Stooges' and 'Fun House', then bought them together, and then it was another FOUR years before I heard anything off 'Raw Power'!

Paul, I WAS speaking musically. I agree with you about Iggy and James being ambitious in a "cut throat" way and that was never Ron's style. That is one of the many things I admired about him. I also admired that he was gracious about being switched to bass. Like I stated in my original post, I was outraged and I discussed the situation with Ron. Ron had decided his desire to make music was stronger that his desire to stand on ceremony. And in my opinion, he was a fine bass player. I just seriously missed his guitar style.

I am not sure how I feel about James returning to the Stooges either. But I would so love to see Iggy and Scott perform live again, that I am willing to accept whoever else is in the band.

Wow....this is awesome! Thank you Natalie for sharing an important part of your life with us...very much appreciated!

Ron is an amazing guitarist! My most favorite Stooge song is Dirt ....the creative architecture on guitar is so beautiful and moving....I need to get better speakers just for that song......

With Shake Appeal, though Ron's on bass ....his riff is the beast which drives the song home....

I dunno...Ron's gone now...it's weird....I think for whatever reason he didn't want to hang around anymore... he didn't take very good care of himself......kinda a give away....

I haven't been keen on Williamson either, however, he did come up with some critical Stooge music as well.....so I've warmed up to the fact he's back.... it seems Scottie and Iggy want to finish what they started......plus, the money they now generate, from what I hear is pretty darn good...something, they in the past never got a chance to enjoy! Iggy never in his career from what I understand is making the kind of money that he's making now, since the reunion.....they deserve it.....they are sonic gods in their own right...

You know who I'm sure would love to hear from you...is Mike Watt.....he ADORED Ron...he's on myspace.....and that's his real profile...Mike and J M from Dinosaur Jr...took Ron under their wing.....Ron's work with those boys was literally jaw dropping ....it was deep stuff......this was a project right before the Stooge re union....

This is my favorite Iggy video! Though he's crazy high...I love the way he skips around on stage and at one point starts to dance.......

Does anyone know...who it is he's playing with in this video?? I know the video title says Iggy and the Stooges.....but it's not...it's Iggy and ?

Raddish,

Thanks for your kind words. I am thoroughly enjoying the forum although it is with mixed. emotions. Those years I was close with the band remain some of my fondest memories. They also are some of the most exciting and frustrating and some of the scariest times in my life.

I have never joined myspace or any of those places so I don't know if I can get on. If you have an email addy for Mike I would like to get in touch. Please pm me if you do.

Take good care, Natalie

Radish

I received your pm. Thanks very much. I will be in touch with you. Right now I am busy with family things. Next week will be calmer.

I do think if we are going to continue to discuss Ron and I am wanting that, it should probably be a new thread. Some members may not read this thread if they are not interested in James. Do you agree?

Natalie

Absolutely! You can start a new thread...I don't see why not...Smile

If you have any problems contacting Watt with the info I gave you....CB/Cathy Burke OR the myspace administrator of the Stooge page.....I'm sure can help....Cathy's a sweetheart...she's Mistress of her own Iggy/Stooge page and in contact with Jim's peeps...

Have a great week with your family...bye for now....Very Happy

Hey Paul, what is your prediction on how the new 'Iggy and the Stooges' will perform?

Great topic to read Very Happy
Thanks.

To me, it was totally awesome and unbelievable that Williamson rejoined the band, 35 years after the Detroit Palace show, and nearly 30 years without touching any guitar.

When The Stooges reunited in 2003, I was quite excited, for sure, but also disappointed that they didn't play any track from "Raw Power"...

When Ron died, I was so fuckin' sad and I was convinced that The Stooges were dead.
Hopefully, in May 2009, when I read this Iggy's interview, I thought it was a joke.

I couldn't imagine that The Stooges were going to reunite with James Williamson on guitar.
As a guitarist, he's my "master". And I always thought I never could see my "master" playing live on stage. Williamson's guitar playing was so influential for punk bands...

I'm really excited about the 5th LP, by the way.
