PostSubject: Ungano's 21-24 February 1970   Sun Oct 18, 2009 1:58 pm

According to reviews, the Stooges played all-new material at the 4-night residency at the Ungano's in Feb 1970. One review mentions "Loose", "Down On The Beach", "Dirt", and "TV Eye" ("See that Boy", as the reviewer heard it). One of the final numbers is referred to as "Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell" - that is how Iggy introduced the number (and it seems to have been played at all the shows during this engagement). It could be "1970" or "Fun House" with different lyrics.

Any people out there who might have been present - what are your recollections?

Was "Down On The Street" still called "Down On The Beach" at this point? Seems likely!

Was "Your Pretty Face..." a unique number which was discarded when other tunes were written - or is it more likely "1970" or "Fun House" in an earlier configuration?

The song we all know as "Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell" was only retitled that at the last minute. It had been recorded during the Raw Power sessions as "Hard To Beat" so it's my guess that it was simply a phrase that Iggy liked, one that had been knocking around for a few years.
I'd be very surprised if the Raw Power "Pretty Face" song had actually been played in 1970.
It's surely much more likely to have been a Fun House song that didn't perhaps have a proper title at that point. Look at the 1971 songs - they are often introduced by differing made up on the spur of the moment names too. So I'd be inclined to think that the Stooges played a tune such as "Fun House", but Iggy introduced the as yet unfinished song as "Your Pretty Face..."
What do you think?
As ever, I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong!
Cheers,
Richard

I think YPFIGTH was either 1970 or Fun House. However, the review states that he sang some lyrics such as "my pretty face is going to hell", so it was probably not just a case of Iggy coming up with a title - more than likely, the song had lyrics that were associated with the title.

Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell had the one line "My Pretty Face is Going to Hell ". It was performed all the nights at Unganos.

By the time Funhouse was recorded the song once know as YPFIGTH had became 1970. The lyrics changed but the basic riff was the same.

Richard,

My memory and I can not take full credit for all I remember. I think I still retain a lot of this trivia because I was writing Popped and answering fan questions during the timeframe.

Cheers back at ya!

Did Dave Alexander play at Unganos, or did Zeke?
