Does anybody own the 70ies UK "Embassy Records" reissue?
How great are the differences from the usual Bowie mix?

And I really hope Mark Wilder does a decent job in remastering not only hardlimiting
the audio as it is often done for "remasters" to just make it louder.

I have it but I don't have the standard Bowie mix for comparison. the most noticeable thing to me is the drum sound on search & destroy.
it's fuckin terrible!!! really echoy

Was there anything about a vinyl format? kinda surprised if not

This all sounds terrific, though at the risk of sounding like I'm whingeing, and I'm really not, I wonder why two tracks from the Iggy 'violent' mix are being included when that album will also remain in print? Would have made more sense to have included more of the very rare 'Embassy' mixes surely?
And, in order to complete the set, why aren't "Tight Pants", "Gimme Some Skin" and "Scene Of The Crime" included along with "Right" and "Sick"? There's plenty of room on the rarities disc for these songs.
This. They could surely have managed to include the whole of the Embassy mix and stuff like Tight Pants etc. I know those tracks are widely circulated, but it would be nice to have them all in one place instead of spread over a million different compilations.

The mention of outtakes from the actual album sessions is interesting as it suggests that they still have the complete multitracks. So aren't there any alternate takes of the songs from the album? It would be great to have something similar to the Funhouse sessions box.

And yes, we totally need the WABX/Stooges mix in pristeen quality! That's something we've waited far too long for and it's ridiculous that it's still only available on those awful Bomp releases.

Could be wrong here, but my understanding was the Embassy issue differences were a question of re-EQing during the mastering, rather than actual different mixes. So yes, they'd be on different tapes. Like I said, I could be wrong, but if you want to check for yourself the Embassy issue of Raw Power usually turns up on ebay U.K./Gemm etc two or three times a month, should sell for around £15, mint. It was in print for years.

The original UK CD issue also sounded very different to both the original UK album and the 70's/80's UK vinyl re-issues, for the same reasons maybe?

Re Iggy's mixes, of course he wants at least a couple of token tracks on there, to miss them off completely would be publicly admitting they're awful, and one small step away from Cleopatra dubbing new drum tracks onto old Stooges tapes. Not to mention that all important cross-market plug for a cd he'll be getting a higher royalty rate on as "remixer".

Re the multi-tracks, if I understand it correctly, they turned up in the possession of someone in the midlands a few years back, made their way via a midlands punk band to Rollins, and were what was used for Iggy's re-imagining of RP as a grunge album. Note that Iggy only started disputing Bowie's claim that he was given a three, or was it four?, track tape to mix RP from after this tape turned up Suspect

personally - I think the Iggy mix of Gimme Danger is WAY better than any other mix I've ever heard. Tons of power and grit - and beautiful piece of dangerous music. I think Iggy's mix gets a really bad rap when it's realyl not that bad at all. But then again - personal preference.

So the multitrack tapes of the Raw Power sessions still exist? How was this band that had them? How did they have possession of them? What a strange tale.

I would much prefer to hear a total remix of those - making sure the oxide didn't fall off!! Shocked

I remember decades ago thinking that the drums and bass with more presence would have made it even better. Its a bit of an ego record really, 'Raw Power'. But still to this day out of all of the decent sounding mixes I prefer Bowies to Iggy's. The latter is horrid. Couldn't wait to be rid of it. Was very disappointed with it.

Including Iggy's mixes is nothing but an ego boost not that he needs his ego boosted anymore than it is already. It's a bit of a rip off to pad out a disc with some of his tracks, whether you like his mixes or not is opinion but I bet almost everyone who buys the set will already have his mix on CD which is still readily available.

I'm only slightly, marginally bummed that the Atlanta show doesn't include 'Wet My Bed'.
And the DVD evidently doesn't include any old footage - unless they're planning to include snippets of the Kral stuff. Didn't Iggy refer last year to footage that "came to us" ?

Still, between the Funhouse and Easy Action boxes, the last ten years have been way better for old-school Stooges fans than the preceding twenty where the only (non-live) release of note was 'Rubber Legs'.

Man you're not kidding. This is one time when I wouldn't mind hearing that irritating commercial phrase: "BUT WAIT-THERE'S MORE!!"

Rubber Legs was my first Stooges bootleg and what I also consider the fourth album. I'll never get rid of it even though I have all the tracks on other releases. The deluxe Raw Power sounds great, and a new version of Kill City is just like icing on the cake.

Hey! new to the stooges forum. Anywho does anyone know what session the demos included in the Raw Power box set were recorded? Also what's the deal with this soundboard recording? Almost sounds to good to be true.

IMHO Gimme Danger and Your Face Is Going To Hell both sound far better on the iggy mix than the original, so I can completely understand why they'd include it. Shame they didn't also include Iggy's version of Penetration, removing the rubbish drum echo.

Still, very exciting, and cool they are finally giving it the attention it deserves. Hope the DVD includes some actual footage from the recording, probably too much to hope but can only try.
