I 've got a question: has Iggy And The Stooges performed Penetration live (in 70s I mean)?

Unless it was played at the Kings Cross July 1972 gig (the set list for which is still uncertain) then no it seems like "Penetration" wasn't played live by Iggy and the Stooges in the 1970s. Oddly it seems like the band also never played in concert "Shake Appeal", "Death Trip" and "Your Pretty Face..." either.
Cheers,
Richard

"Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell" was played live. I specifically remember Iggy changing the lyrics at one point to "My pretty Face is going to hell".

I believe it was played at Kings Cross I read an account of someone saying Iggy introduced multiple songs as "Penetration".

Nat I have never seen it on any of the bootlegs, was it played at the rehearsals at all? "Can't Turn You Loose" on the "Heavy Liquid" boxset sounds a lot like "Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell".

I don't know whether this has subsequently been found to be incorrect, but Per Nilsen's 'The Wild One' lists all of the above songs, including 'Penetration' as being played at the Ford Auditorium show in March '73

Oops, 'Pretty Face' isn't mentioned, but the others are. Sorry.

"I'm Hungry" is a different song, in Mick Rock's 1972 interview with Iggy only two new song titles are mentioned: "Penetration" and "I'm Hungry". So they can't have the same music like the Sony boxset's rip-off disc would have you believe.

Ugh, I thought we'd laid this one to rest?

Rock mentioning both song titles in his piece doesn't preclude them being based on the same music. Maybe he saw them written on a tape box or recording sheet, scribbled them down in his notes and that led to him name-dropping them in his piece. So all that would imply is that the tapes might have been next to each other!

And don't forget that, according to Nick Kent's article, Penetration itself started out with totally different music. So there might be a third variation of the track out there somewhere!
