Anyone notice how similar She Creatures of the Hollywood Hills and the Raw Power outtake Doojiman sound alike?

I was listening to the Live In 73 bootleg today and this shot out at me. Just guessing, but She Creatures probably developed out of the Doojiman demo? (If you ask me, Dooji is definitely an Ig/Williamson workout track...JW riffin' and Iggy tryin' to find some words to fit)

Never noticed this before but i have to agree.

I thought i remember reading that She Creatures was penned by Ron, which would explain the jungle beat reminiscent of early stooges on Doojiman - otherwise MJG seems correct about his ig/JW assertions.

Great tracks in either case, wish there was more stuff recorded during the Raw Power sessions and on the box set. It was a bit underwhelming when it was released, especially after the first rumours of a four disc box set, - and we didn't even get four unheard tracks.

the addition of, what i guess is, the only professionally recorded gig of that period was an excellent find though

She Creatures is an Iggy/James song. Ron was wrongly credited by "Revenge Records"

There's certainly a similarity, but She Creatures is by quite some distance a much better track. Doojiman / Niggerman is little more than an unfocused jam. She Creatures is musically much much sharper - Iggy's lyrics are still fairly unformed but the band are terrific.
Cheers,
Richard

Ron was also credited on Heavy Liquid as the originator of She Creatures, and it definitely sticks out a mile from the other Raw Power era tracks, my money is on it being Ron's!

I'm sure Ron has stated in an interview that She Creatures was his composition. It would make sense as it basically centres around that bassline - James doesn't do much on it really.

Along similar lines, should Jesus Loves the Stooges really be considered a Bob Scheff tune? And probably Pin Point Eyes come to that - the latter is obviously just a jam but it seems to start around the piano and bass. James only picks up the riff from Bob and Ron after a few bars.

I think the 'Pop/Williamson' tag only really applies to the Raw Power tracks and a few of the solid tunes (Open Up & Bleed, Johanna etc) that came after. I think the Ashetons had far more of an input that we give credit for.

Maybe, but I can't imagine James and Iggy being responsible for every single note of music that came out of the band, sure James and Iggy wrote Open Up & Bleed, but the 6 minute plus psychedelic ending from the live recordings? It wreaks of the pre-James era primal Stooge white noise, you can even hear Ron and Scotty Thurston without a doubt getting the ball rolling on the track Pinpoint Eyes. I think if your talking about basic Riffs and lyrics, yeah sure, James and Iggy, but on the compositions overall in regards to structure, the melodic basslines of Ron, the drum work of Scott - the Ashetons are all over it.

In addition, James himself has gone on record to say that the 'songs' he turned into the band in hindsight were nothing more than rudimentary chord patterns fashioned into shape by Iggy and the rest of the band. Ron also bemoans (In Perfect Sounds Forever Interview) about his lack of credit in 'enhancing' the music of the Raw Power group and having his compositions that he presented to the group being derided and rejected. One would have to assume that for Iggy and James to reject said compositions, they would at least have had had to rehearsed them first.

Personally, I just can't imagine tracks such as Head On, a track with strong similarities to She Creatures, and such prominent Bass Riffing coming into existence without any input from the fully competent bass player in position.

Pity Ron never wrote his memoirs. What a story.

This may be the closest you'll get. It's a pretty long interview with him from 1988.

It's Ron's....in an interview I read in Guitar World he stated that he came up with that bassline. But he also said that beyond a bassline here and there he wasn't allowed much input. Too bad. I think Ron and James could have come up with some real barnburners as a team.
