No, seriously, what is this? Does this come from an official release? It's longer than all the versions on the Rhino CDs, too.

Yes, that's possible. Anyway, it sounds like a newly discovered "The Stooges"-outtake!

It's perhaps this "fast version" on Dirty Power (http://www.amazon.com/Dirty-Power-Iggy-Stooges/dp/tracks/B004GE81A2/ref=dp_tracks_all_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1295021643&sr=1-2#disc_2) ?

Sounds like elements of the original have been combined with a new recording. Pretty good actually.
It's certainly a recent vocal. Wonder who the other musicians are?

I also think the vocal sounds quite recent. But the music sounds like it comes from the 1969 "The Stooges" sessions. Maybe Iggy sang over the old backing?

It's from the soundtrack to the 2010 movie "Faster".
http://www.theost.com/2010/faster.html

When did they record the song? Is it a new recording by Iggy & The Stooges???? The first new studio recording by them????

It could be!! The guitar solo sounds really close to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance.

Why is it credited to Iggy if it's by the Stooges?

It says "Iggy Pop" on that internet page, we do not know what it says on the actual CD.

Sounds like Iggy has some buddies who like fucking around with protools, the drum track sound like the original in the beginning because of the unmistakeable timing of the Rock Action roll but then t sounds like they pushed the track forward slightly the timing is different. My guess would be this was done together with those phony "outtakes"on the Raw Power reissue. My opinion is that its a disgrace and Iggy is taking you for a ride. People got to like Alice Coltrane fucking around with Coltranes masterpieces eventually though so it might fly Smile not sure Ron would have been amused though.

I emailed James W. about it, he wrote, he'll check out the version, he said "not sure what it is"

It's like Iggy's finally remixed the first album. Good to hear James is looking into it Flo it does sound like his take on the solo in the beginning, the mix is terrible though.

I love Alice Coltrane but can never get into John's stuff. If you're a fan Kruger you might be interested that I've recently been in touch with Michelle Coltrane about tracking down and releasing the pro-recorded but never released Live at Carnegie Hall 1971 gig: JOURNEY IN SATCHIDANANDA, SHIVA-LOKA, AFRICA and LEO! - Good news is she's looking into it.

This is a 2000's version, I'm willing to bet. They probably rerecorded the song when the band reunited in 2003.

I don't think it was AOL sessions, but probably something similar...

So there are several possibilities:

a) it's Iggy and his "ProTools buddies" ;-)
b) it's The Stooges (with Ron on guitar)
c) it's Iggy & The Stooges (with James on guitar)

Either way, I love it!

But I would really like to know if it's (IGGY &) THE STOOGES or Iggy solo.

Has James commented on it yet?

The solo doesn't sound like Ron to me, on the AOL session there is wah pedal all over the solo, none or very little on this.

Hi mc that is very interesting, I would like to hear that recording. Are you working for a jazz label? As far as John Coltranes music it takes a while to get into, I started with recordings like "Crescent" and "First Meditations" it tookk some time to get used to the free stuff but after a while its an addiction. Going straight to "Interstellar Space" is difficult Smile
I think a lot of Stooges fans would appreciate Sonny Sharrock, Pharoah Sanders and Alice because there are for sure elements of their influence in the Stooges sound especially on the first 2 records. Ron Asheton named "Cosmic Music" by John and Alice as one of his all time favourite records on the Perfect Sound Forever blog.
