PostSubject: So...whats next?   Fri Sep 19, 2014 5:46 pm

Well after pasing of Asheton Brothers and Iggy taking year off  touring till 2015,
Im curious what do you think is gonna happen next?

They will be still touring as Iggy and the Stooges(or they gonna change the name and keep going   with the same line up?).
Iggy will  retiring from touring?
He would relaunch his solo career(who would be backing him Sales brothers, the trolls new band?)

the next move now that Williamson is playing again all those odd Stooges tracks is an " Iggy Pop / James Williamson " tour based on Raw Power + Kill City and all those weird tracks we love , yeah , give me " I'm sick of you " in concert and end it on " Heavy Liquid " , plus New Values tracks for the encore !

who's with me ?

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/iggy-pop-remembers-scott-asheton-he-played-with-a-boxers-authority-20140319

"I don't want to say that I'm done with the band. I would just say that I feel like the group has always included the Asheton brothers. When Ron passed away, Scott represented him. Nearly everything we play, Ron played on originally. I don't feel right now like there's any reason for me to go jumping out onstage in tight Levi's. What am I going to scream about?

I just can't see the band playing in the near future. It would just be wrong. But if something comes up, you should be open to it. It depends on the feeling of the family and the surviving members. James Williamson was in the group and I've been there since it started. It would depend on the realities and the musical truth.

A good rock group is a musical gift as well as a social phenomenon. What usually happens is that at various times within the timeline of any of these groups, divisions emerge and feelings mount that have no outlet. Those can cause destruction. They can cause falsehood. I think they can be recognized and best dealt with by stepping back.

I have no plans to tour solo. I definitely have no plans to be a touring musician for the next couple of years. I've toured almost every year out of the past forty years. I'll probably tour again at some point, but I don't know when and I don't know how."

Iggy and James could maybe collaborate as a post-Stooges duo, working on new material - if they have enough in common... and have the inspiration to say something new, but I wouldn't count on it. The Stooges band surely passed away with Ron and Scott.

Iggy sounds very happy on the radio, reflecting. I don't begrudge him his retirement at all, if this is what it is.

wasn't the only way up for them to record the demos from yesteryear, between them that did not happen.

Instead of "Ready To Die" they should have done "Re-Licked", but with Iggy on vocals. It did not happen and now that James has gone ahead with his version it will never happen. This feels like a bad dream. When the Rolling Stones finished up all those "Exile" and "Some Girls"outtakes some years ago did they use other singers? No of course not. It was Mick on vocals. As it should be.

I think Iggy was clever not to do "re-licked". his voice and vocal delivery has changed so much since 72/73. The bad dream for me is i want those original demos to be better sound quality.

I prefer Iggy's mature vocals so I would have loved to hear him on Re-Licked. The 2009–2013 live versions of songs from the 1972–1974 period were fantastic (e.g. Open Up And Bleed).

I suppose the best solution is really to discover the master tapes of those 1973 rehearsals.
To hear those, complete, in decent quality, at the correct speed, and with details as to exactly where and when they were recorded - THAT would be the Holy Grail for me.
Well, I can dream can't I? Smile
Surely someone has the actual masters of this stuff?
Cheers,
Richard

I also think this is definitely end of stooges...
The last thing they gonna do is that Jarmush movie.Maybe with that we will hear last stooges songs i really hope that Jarmusch and James will push iggy to lay some vocals on relicked for that movie.
I hope he gonna make some mature album with succes such big as those last Cash albums after all this sex and money stooge period.

I'm actually looking forward to this. It's about time we had a proper release for the 1977 Mantra session. Okay, it's not the Stooges but Iggy was obviously still in love with Stooge songs at that time. The session contains 12 tracks, of which 4 are from Raw Power with 2 each from The Stooges and Funhouse. I only wish we didn't have to wait until April next year for this.

I have a recording of the radio station Mantra Studio session but it's marked on the cassette box as 13th April 1977 not 28th March. Were there two sessions?!?

Iggy and the band were playing in San Francisco on 13 April, so the 28 March recording date must be the correct one.
But was the session actually broadcast on 28 March? Could it perhaps have been broadcast on 13 April? Anyone know?
Cheers,
Richard

Ah that must be the answer. Of course whoever recorded it would note the broadcast date, maybe didn't even know when the band was actually in the studio. Seems reasonable to assume a 13th April broadcast date. Thanks Richard.

On the subject of 'what's next?' there was a somewhat informative interview with Iggy on The BBC yesterday. Available here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04kfk2g

He doesn't sound ambitious to revive the band, but he does sound like he's enjoying his celebrity and his well-earned status. Looking forward to his lecture...

Didn't know about the EasyAction 77 LP sessions thanks!

Still holding out hope for Where the Faces Shine 3 from those guys.

God knows whats next for Ig. I think losing Ron and Scott has hit him hard, obviously.

I would love him to tour his solo stuff but at near 70 and without that Asheton energiser behind him every night i can't imagine it would be easy. Never know.

Hopefully he just keeps going with whatever he enjoys. The radio gig is cool and great to hear him and his tastes so that for now is fine.

Maybe another album? Round out the 'Existence' albums, Preliminaires and Apres, to make it a trilogy?

Over see remastering/repackaging/extras of his better/more successful albums like Lust for Life and Idiot?

I'll be there to enjoy whatever he chooses in any case.

I think I fear it's the end of the Stooges as we know em, but they were great while it lasted... sigh, if only I hadn't joined a tad too late Crying or Very sad But it's always great to have their music around to remember and honour their memory. Surprised

You didn't join to late, they weren't a band from '74-'03 either.

It's hard to say what the future has in store for the Stooges, there's only two left (5 if you count Jimmy Recca, Scot Thurston and Steve Macay)

I think Mike Watt should be counted as a 'real Stooge', he has been in the band for 11 years now.
