'In addition to Iggy, Jarmusch devotes a lot of screen time to other talking heads from the bandís rotating membership: the guitarist Scott Asheton (who died in 2014), his brother Ron, who was the drummer, and James Williamson, the lead guitarist who joined the band in 1970. In essence, they were all backup musicians...'

Ron on drums? James in 1970? †Backup musicians?!? †Whack

Well, James did start playing with the band at the very end of 1970, but yes, this review has a lot of factual errors. Makes you wonder how closely the reviewer actually watched the film. And they seem obsessed with the wild stories rather than the music. I suspect that most fans will be keener to hear about the music, which is what it sounds like Jarmusch has done.

Point taken. †I always think of the 5-piece band as being a '71 phenomenon, but you're absolutely right of course. † Embarassed

Nice interview clip! Thanks for putting it up, tho' for a minute I thought maybe Iggy was gonna speak French! That'd have been v. cool. I bet he can garble some good French when he wants to.

Here's a review by a critic who's more clued in to what The Stooges were all about:

Good Cannes interview. Jim J. basically confirmed it ... previously unseen footage!!! Can't wait.

Speaking of movies, anyone seen 'Blood Orange' starring Iggy? I bailed after the first 10 minutes because, as far as acting goes ... Iggy's a great singer!!

In this review http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/jim-jarmuschs-gimme-danger-cannes-895695 it says that the movie ends "with their 2010 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

The prospect of unseen footage sure seems tantalizing. I guess the question is, will it be more silent footage (of which is the preponderance from 1969 - 1973) or will it have audio? Any t.v. performances they did in 1969-70 were likely mimed. Probably the ultimate prize (other than King's Cross) would be unreleased footage from Cincinnatti Pop or Gooselake 1970. But since there were a lot of famous bands on those bills and nothing else unseen has emerged over the years (I'm sure people have looked), this seems like a pipe dream. Personally I'd be happy with a better quality St.Louis 1973 ( and there is hope for this since the footage on the Raw Power box set was supposedly a dub copy made by a Stooges fan who worked in a film archive department) and a mostly complete Academy Of Music.

The still-in-progress Stooges story on audio has slowly emerged over the last 40+ years. On video, this doc will likely be the last word. This project appears to be a labor of love. It will likely be the last say on Stooges video. If Jim hasn't found it, I guess that's it.

" Jim Osterberg as Iggy Pop "

When Rolling Stone did a cover story on the MC5 back in 1969 they called him Iggy Osterberg (before anyone had heard of him) and suggested that he made Jim Morrison seem tame. I don't know how Iggy pronounces his surname but I've heard it pronounced both oh-ster-berg and oss-ter-berg. SNL did a Mike O'Brien skit recently where the teachers name was Osterberg and it was pronounced oh-ster-berg. Because of his surname many people assume Iggy is of Jewish descent. But it turns out that he ended up with that surname because his father had been adopted into a Jewish family. Iggy is really of English/Irish/Danish descent. More humorously, another misconception about Iggy is that many people think he is five-foot-one in stature, like the recently departed English comedic legend Ronnie Corbett. You know, because of the New Values song, which many people assume is autobiographical.

I'll definitely see it for any unreleased material, but they're probably going to shit all over Dave.

My guess is there'll be some better St Louis 73, some but not all Academy of Music (in better quality), and hopefully some more of Daniels Den 1970 than has been seen before. †The other possibility is some more of the Ford Auditorium 73 show - 10 seconds or so currently exists but quality is not really any better than St Louis.

Beautiful quality on the Delta Pops footage.

http://iris.theaureview.com/sydney-film-festival-review-gimme-danger-usa-2016/

http://www.finder.com.au/sydney-film-festival-review-gimme-danger mentions "Television clips from 50s & 60s (including some of the Stooges)"!!

http://megaphoneoz.com/sydney-film-festival-review-gimme-danger/ ok maybe it's The Three Stooges not our boys?

Wow! That Delta Pops footage looks like it was shot yesterday.
I hope the Goose Lake footage appears in the film and is of similar quality. (Didn't Russ Gibb shoot that?)
