Jagger and Iggy had a lot in common; hair - posture - clothes - dancing/movings on stage - shyness - provocative attitude - some face features (posted Iggyisch Jagger photo in Picture thread)...ah...Iggy is A WAY more interesting though pirat

Yeah nice jacket HSJW. These ones you can find pretty easily these days, vintage and as new.

Bet the're a lot of people wearing/having a typical Iggy/Stooges style. Like the hair or having the gloves..silver pants and stuff like that...

Hi ZiinZin,

I did find you and the thread!

Iggy had that perm before I knew them. In the photo you can see it is growing out. I met the band in June 1969 and nobody had a perm. I don't know about the John S and his nfluence. It was. A hippie thing to do. I do not think Iggy let anybody influence him too much. He always knew what he wanted and could be very charming at getting it.

Dave's hair was brown and wavy and got a little bit sun bleached in the summer. It had a reddish cast but to my best knowledge he never used color on it.

Ron had brown hair, rather dark and nice and thick. He usually parted it in the middle.

Scott had black hair, long and thick and shinny. My personal opinion is that Scott had the best hair and the bluest eyes. His eyes are robin's egg blue and the contrast with his very dark hair was very striking.

All the original Stooges had blue eyes.

One other bit of Iggy trivia. ..........he used to apply this styling product called "Great Body" to his hair. It was supposed to be applied to wet hair but he would put it on dry and shake his hair to get the look.

Wow, some of the crazy things I remember after all this time.

Nice info, thanks, the information about Dave is VERY important to me Very Happy The shade of his hair seems to vary quite a bit in photos and footage and stuff, and I love that about it, but it's confused me in the past. Sometimes it def. looks orange-y but in just one photo it looks really really dark brown, more like Scott's! That's quite an early photo, tho, I think, will have to find it again

When I first met Iggy his hair was natural medium brown. It was the put a bowl over your head and trim look. Then he used the "Great Body" to get the wind blown look. His hair was similar when he bleached it blonde but by that time I don't know if he was stilli using the same product.

Now I would think his hair is salt and pepper before he colors it. That is just a guess. He is 62.

hahaha.. bowl over his head do. yeah that was .. well .. dunno.. not the best cut.
Iggy had a lot of hair though in those days.

So Iggy probably colours his hair now into blond. could be.
I always thought it was the Miami sun.. bleachin it.
Iggy should be careful with that blonding stuff..
he doesn't has that much hair any more.

ha.. I ended up bold.. when i tried to bleach my brown hair
with some sunbleechin chemicals into platinablond...
was not a good idea No

Would be weird to see > Iggy bold
now mentioning this...actually of all styles he had..
Iggy never had shaved his hair off.. did he?

Natalie, this is my final hair-related question. How often did the length of Dave's hair change? it seems to have been really quite long at the time of 'Fun House'?

Nadja,

You can ask away. If you have more, ask!

In 69 and 70 Dave's length was the same as the album covers. It was darker in the winter and reddish in the summer. In 73 when he came to NY for the shows it was shorter but stll ear length. Th last time I saw him when he was in the hospital it was also longish but not to his shoulders.

Pretty hair and such a wonderful guy. Life a'int fair, I know he had so much more to do.

ZinZin,

I would guess that Iggy now has a hair colorist and it is done professionally. With the length it is now, he is not going to take chances with the home DIY stuff.

I am enjoying the non music, non drug related questions very much.

If there are any more trivia questions from back in the day, please just ask.

thanks for such a detailed answer Natalie! A couple more questions then:
How thick was Dave's hair? It looks really thick on the Fun House album pics but maybe that's more because he was wearing it really quite long then?
also on a couple of shots from 1970 it looks noticeably curly! Did he ever do very much to it?
oh, and I might as well ask, did he always have a centre parting?

btw, nice to hear more about the colour of Ron's too. He and Dave look to have a similar hair-colour on the first album cover.

Nadja,

I take great comfort in knowing that there is someone out there who is slightly more obsessed than I am. Thank you for that, LOL!

While we're on the subject, Ron used to spend some serious time with the hairdryer battling that natural wave in his hair. He wasn't necessarily a wash n' go kinda guy....

Nadja,

Any time I saw Dave his hair was parted Iin the middle. He sometimes had some fring but by the end of the concert it was wet and pushed back off his face.

Dave's hair was thick but not really bushy.

Lolakelly,

You made me laugh. One time we were going to dinner and I knocked on the door and caught Ron right out of the shower. He did take forever to blow that hair dry. He was meticulous about grooming and his clothes and his guitars and he was a good friend. Damn but I wish he were still around

Nadja,

I just figured out why you and some other forum members ask if some of the guys had "red" hair.

Just ordered some old Stooge cd's to replace ones I lost. The first LP cover looks very red. Iggy, Ron and Dave all look like they had auburn hair on that cover. Even Scott has some auburn highlights in his hair. Not only were the songs re-mastered, the cover photograph has been re-mastered also.

I have some old out takes of that photo session (stolen from the Electra files- I am laughing-I did not steal anything) and looking at the original photos, all the band's hair is the correct color.

Even their faces have too much red so now I have solved my mystery.

Natalie, I suppose I was also partly misled by reading Iggy's description once, that Dave had real long 'orange' hair, but like you said on the other thread, I shouldn't believe everything I read.
Iggy's original hair colour has always looked straightforwardly brown to me, a kind of glossy brown, and Scott's looks straightforwardly very dark, and Ron's a lighter brown. It's just Dave's I always agonized over.

i think theyre hair was, like most boys growing up in the 60s, just a sign of adolescent/anti-social beahviour.

i really dont think thres much more to it than that.

its HAIR...big deal.

Sway, Some people just LOVE to dig into details and possibilities why and how:

hey.. why do people talk endlessly about gear, like a guitar??
dzjeez it's just a dull thing! nothing on itself.. except for the person who play's on it.

If you take it from the bottom.. all we talk about.. is no big deal.
if you don't like to have fun in the hair thread.. well.. don't post here!

To me it was an interesting time, all had a reason or reference, it makes me dive into that era from another perspective and..
it's just fun to talk about Stooges hair on a forum like this!
